Nintendo is officially launching the Switch 2 in the U.S. on June 5, 2025. The standard version will be priced at $449.99, while a special bundle with Mario Kart World will go for $499.99. Whether you’re a longtime Nintendo fan or just looking for the next big thing in gaming, there’s a lot to get excited about.
This new generation of the Switch keeps the hybrid concept we all love but upgrades it in just about every way. The Switch 2 features a 7.9-inch 1080p LCD screen, now with HDR10 support and a super-smooth 120Hz Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)—so games look sharper, brighter, and more fluid than ever.
Under the hood, it’s powered by a custom Nvidia Ampere-based chip, which means faster loading times and much better graphics performance. Basically, everything will run smoother and look better.
The new Joy-Con 2 controllers snap on magnetically and include a few cool upgrades. They now support mouse-like precision when laid flat, and there’s a brand-new “C” button that adds more flexibility for in-game communication and controls.
Storage also gets a major bump. You’ll get 256GB of internal UFS memory, with support for microSD Express cards up to 2TB, plenty of room for a growing game library.
And good news for existing Switch owners: most of your current physical and digital Switch games will work on the Switch 2. Backward compatibility means you won’t have to start over.
On the social side, Nintendo is stepping things up with GameChat, a built-in communication system that allows voice chat, screen sharing, and even video calls (if you’ve got the optional USB-C camera).
As for launch titles, Mario Kart World is leading the charge, alongside upgraded versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Even big-name third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition are coming to the platform.
